Our Curriculum

Early Years Learning Framework

McGraths Hill Learning Centre’s early learning program is based on the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). This framework has been put in place by the Australian Government, as part of their drive to maintain consistent quality standards in early childhood education at a national level.

The EYLF is a play-based curriculum, which encourages children to achieve learning goals and milestones through play. The framework also focuses on development of emotional, social and communication (language, numeracy & literacy) skills.

The Early Years Learning Framework’s vision is for all children to experience play-based learning that is engaging and builds success for life. It describes childhood as a time of belonging, being and becoming. Belonging is the basis for living a fulfilling life. Children feel they belong because of the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place. Being is about living here and now. Childhood is a special time to just “be” – time to play, try new things and have fun.

Becoming is about the learning and development that young children experience. Children start to form their sense of identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become.

Being

Our rich learning environments explore being in many meaningful contexts. Providing children with the tools and sense of agency to make meaning of the world and share individual perspectives, shaping their identity and building relationships with others. Allowing children to be within the here and now instead of preparing for the future

Belonging

Belonging refers to the process of understanding children’s sociocultural context, exploring and empowering diverse families, local and global communities, and cultures. Allowing children to develop trusting relationships while acknowledging and exploring their interdependence.`

Becoming

Our close community and interconnected relationships with the families is consistently working towards understanding children’s ever-developing identities, knowledge, skills, capabilities, and relationships. We are committed to developing the best possible understanding of children’s sociocultural contexts to support them during a time of rapid development and growth.

Our Rooms

Owl Babies
(6Weeks – 2 Years)

Leaving a baby in childcare can be a very stressful time for parents. When the child isn’t old enough to communicate their needs, like and dislikes, it is often difficult for parents to imagine anyone else looking after their baby.

The educators at McGraths Hill Learning Centre have the skills and knowledge needed to provide a safe, nurturing environment for our babies and toddlers to learn and grow. The educators have the patience, understanding, empathy and caring nature needed to care and educate babies.

We value strong relationships between our babies and their teachers as feeling safe and secure is the foundation of children’s wellbeing. We foster a sense of belonging as they enhance their circle of security. We value the relationships we share with our families as this is the perfect opportunity to understand each baby on an individual and personal level.

The Owl Babies room have 2 separate cot rooms which are disinfected after each babies use with all the linen provided. We also have toddler beds for our babies who are 18 months – 2 years old. The toddler bed sheets are purchased as a one off purchase ensuring each toddler has their own set of sheets which is washed by the families and returned back weekly.

We are a breastfeeding friendly environment with a private space for mothers to breastfeed if desired.

All nappies, wipes, full cream milk and other alternative milks are provided. The items provided by the families during their babies’ time with us is;

  • A bag packed with 2 sets of clothes that are clearly labelled.
  • Dummy, comforter or sleep suit if these items are used at home.

Educators plan with intentionality to provide a program that encourages dispositions for learning such as curiosity, cooperation, creativity, persistence, and imagination. Pre-reading, writing, phonics, numeracy & motor skills are features of our learning program.

The School Readiness program is delivered by a university qualified Early Childhood Teacher who understands the developmental needs of preschool children.

We value real life experiences allowing the children to connect with the world around them. The goals of this room is to enhance the children’s emerging literacy & numeracy knowledge, fundamental life skills, social skills and being independent and confident learners.
